David Gross is a particle physicist and string theorist and was awarded the 2004 Nobel Prize in Physics along with Frank Wiczek and David Politzer for the discovery of asymptotic freedom. He is the Director of the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP) and the first incumbent of the Frederick W. Gluck Chair in Theoretical Physics at the Unversity of California, Santa Barbara. Before holding that position, he was an Assistant Professor at Princeton for twenty seven years. Gross is a fellow of the American Physicial Society, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Indian Academy of Science, and The American Association for the Advancement of Science.
